Trains from Vienna (Wien Hauptbahnhof) take around four hours. Train travel to Hallstatt mostly requires at least one transfer – usually at Attnang-Puchheim. From Salzburg, couples and groups of up to five may usually save by using local trains and the cheap Einfach Raus bargain savings ticket.
