'Tis The last rose of summer, left blooming alone; ,
All her lovely companions are faded and gone;
No flower of her kindred, no rosebud is nigh,
To reflect back her blushes, or give sigh for sigh.
I'll not leave thee, thou lone one to pine on the stem;
Since the lovely are sleeping, go sleep thou with them.
Thus kindly I scatter, thy leaves o'er that bed,
Where thy mates of the garden, lie scentless and dead.
So soon may I follow, when friendships decay,
And from love's shining circle, the gems drop away,
When true hearts lie withered, and fond ones are flown,
Oh!who would inhabit, this bleak world alone.

Oh! who would inhabit this bleak world alone?
When speaking of this song, it feels as though human resentment, hatred, hostility, and competition are the very roots of loneliness. In this world, no one can survive in isolation. Even with the delicate beauty and fragrance of a rose, with whom is there to share or confide? Humans are intelligent creatures; there is no relationship that cannot be mended. It is not the strife between people that brings vibrancy to this world, but rather these unresolved conflicts that leave us lonely and distressed. Just like the final line of this song, "Oh! who would inhabit this bleak world alone?" Does this not express the poet's view of the mortal world?
